Probably my all-time favorite book. As a Christian, this book blew me away. Despite the claims of contemporary archeology, there is overwhelming evidence for the existence of a semitic people in Egypt, living in slavery, then suddenly leaving - as well as compelling evidence for things like 1. the conquest of Jericho, 2. biblical-type plagues on Egypt, 3. Joseph (I won't list anymore - I don't want to give away the whole book!).The author, Tim Mahoney, spent over a decade researching, and he interviewed the experts. The amount of research and time devoted to this book (And movie) is exceptional. I don't think anything compares. My faith was increased ten-fold and plan to read this book again and again.
I've always been taught that contempt prior to investigation is a bad thing. Mr. Mahoney does do the hard work here, he investigates. The Bible as history is absolutely fascinating especially when put in the right timeframe. As an enhancement to faith, why would you base your faith on a lie? I feel badly for those that do. It is sad that politics and the need to be top dog on the religious heap takes precedence over fact. If your basic premis is wrong your end result is wrong and you've brought nothing to the table but confusion. I would like to challenge the scholars that will not set aside their prejudices to look at the facts.
If you are an ancient history or biblical archeology buff, this book will fascinate you. It details the author's research into the Exodus. He interviews experts in the field and over many years, develops an alternate timeline that fills in the blanks and answers questions that historians have been asking for the last 200 years. I thought I would read a little and then skip through. Once I got into it, I read it straight through and immediately ordered a copy for my youngest son. He has been studying the period for many years and had read many of the authors who were interviewed. He also was a little put off at the coffee table format, but started it and couldn't stop.
A great deal of research went into this monumental work! When ALL the facts are dug out and reviewed by people who are looking for the truth, and are not controlled by those who choose to ignore facts that don't fit the established line (which is based on old data), it is obvious that our institutions of higher learning have to do a lot of reconstruction of a faulty Egyptian timeline.IThis book is an in-depth look at many factors that add up to a marvelous realization! But the book, you will not regret it!
The video program was truly fascinating and 100% convincing. This is really well researched. As for the book, it provides a ton of more information and is worth having. I think It's a bit weird that the author / producer includes offers to purchase marketing materials for reader-hosted seminars and showings of the video. This is totally shameless self-promotion. Even so, the book is great.

It's taking me awhile to read, and I'm now on the bibliography. I find this subject explained very clearly, without talking down to a layperson who is not an archaeologist or Egyptologist.
