I just finished Marie Monville's book and, like many others, could not put it down. I loved Marie's heart, love and protection of her children and how she and her family became one with the Amish community. I shed tears more than once throughout the book. Hers is, in reality, His story. We don't know, nor understand why God allows tragedies, but it's how we respond to the tragedy that counts. We can choose to become bitter or better. Marie chose the latter. I have been deeply touched by her book. God has instructed us to share our victories and, if we do not praise Him, the rocks will cry out! I would not criticize her for any choices she made, nor how she chose to use the donations she received. We do not know how we would handle such a tragedy were we in Marie's shoes. Also, I appreciate her challenge to others to share about what Jesus has done in their lives. I wish her and her family many blessings and His protection over her household. Kay
How do you say GOD LIKE ? Just look at the Amish in this story and see how they forgave and then supported a family who were just as much of a victim as we're the young children who were killed . What great examples the Amish are for us to follow .
Fantastic read that moved and touched my heart. "One Light Still Shines: My Life Beyond the Shadow of the Amish Schoolhouse," is a story of God's Love. No matter how difficult our life experiences may become, God is there (if we allow and trust Him) to take us from the depths of pain and despair to the heights of healing and restoration.I almost didn't purchase this book, because I thought it might be a tell-all book. However, Monville's account reveals the heart of God, His sovereignty, how much He loves and cares for each one of us, His concern for our pain, and how He lovingly provides for the smallest detail and needs in our life. This book will quickly dispel any thoughts that God doesn't care about each one of us. Don't bypass this read.
I admire this woman's courage and strength. She says herself the strength was not of her own design but came from Jesus. So often in these devastating situations we feel compassion for the victims and their family's. But we do not always see the family of the shooter as victims. They are. The pain was different but just as painful. In one moment of time, Marie's world was turned upside down. She never saw any violence in her husband nor did his family. The pain he felt inside was hidden and deep. It had to explode and it did. The pain he caused his wife, children, family and community changed lives. This is truly a love story, between Marie and God.
The book brings many tears to your eyes. But if you read it as only a story about someone else, you miss the point. You have to let it challenge your life, and ask some important questions about your relationship with God. It should be read slow enough for the truths to sink in, not about one lady's tragic circumstances, but how God can meet anyone's needs and how much he loves each of us. It's a good book (what right really does one have to assess the outpouring of someone's life story as a "good book"?). I say this because it is a sad, moving, challenging, disturbing ..story that hopefully leads every reader to a painful place of being willing to let God have more say in their life, and make the choice to see a different side (and reason) of pain and suffering. It is amazing that Marie is willing to make public such private feelings. THANKYOU for the challenge to stop and look for God in every part of our life!
One of the best mom fiction books I have read.Marie is a true inspiration of the virtuous woman in the Bible. Will recommend this book for my Christian friends to read
I really enjoyed reading this book. I am always glad to read about Godly women in the world today. Marie Monville is one of those women who honored God, honored her husband and honored her family. I can't imagine the grief she went through even though I read the book. She is a strong Christian and my prayer is that the women in my family would come to a time in their lives where God means as much to them as He does to Marie Monville. Marie is the epitome of what every Christian man wants his wife to be. God Bless her and her new family.
Loved the honesty of this author! In spite of suffering an unimaginable tragedy, she reveals how her deep faith sustains her. She takes the reader along on her journey, through the dark days of grief, revealing her ever-present source of light. Great read! Full of hope!
