Losing a child is one of the worst things a parent can ever go through in this life. Sometimes, if you're willing to take a chance, there is a way that maybe helps you to process this devastating tragedy and also gives you a higher insight into yourself. This father, who clearly loved his son so much, was able to channel his grief into a story of his experience with his son's death, that not only allows for healing to take place, but also informs the reader of what the families go through when they get involved with organ donation. A well written piece. Informative. Sensitive. And a love letter to his son, Chris. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story with us.
I must give 5 stars. This book is incredibly moving. I cried and I rejoiced. Thank you Eric Gregory for sharing the intimate details of the worst week of your life. Thank you Christopher Gregory for the gifts you bestowed on so many others. Thank you for leading by example. I miss you.

It’s a story of compassion, love, tragedy, and ultimately joy at how much meaning Chris brought to his own life and the lives of so many others.The effects of Chris’ donation are still growing today as Eric and his wife Grace share their story with others, telling of the importance of organ donation and how it has brought hope and joy to their lives.
The book starts out well,but quickly starts to drag.There are too many people involved,and the author goes too far back in each of their lives.I thought it would change once the organ transplants started, but it did not. I could not finish the book just for this reason. The author made the book drag by going back into the lives of every person his son ever knew in his life.
This book is akin to Chicken Soup for the (nurses) (donor families) (donor recipient/families) (person's who have lost a child, sibling, family member or friend)---Soul. As a ICU/transplant nurse I have served on both on the side of the donor and the side of the donor recipient--sometimes both in the same shift. Not only does this book hit close to my professional home but to my home, home as the niece of a double lung recipient. Eric allows you to dive right into to his most vulnerable place, his grief--and the grief of his loved ones. And in doing so he allows you to touch your own grief, sit with it, talk to it, cry with it, maybe even come to terms with it? He opens up to a time when he and his family were drowning in their grief and the circumstances that allowed him and his family learn how to swim with the current of grief instead of drowning beneath the waves of it.This is an amazing read for anyone curious about the process of organ donation whether personal or medical in nature. If you are currently grieving this is also the book for you. Thank you, Eric, Grace, John, Colin and Christopher---Bravo!
It's hard enough experiencing death in a family but it takes a special love to share this very personal part of you. Thank you for your courage, your unfailing faith, and your humor. May God continue to bless all of you on your journey to relate to Chris in a different way! Hugs
As the parent of a young man who received a liver transplant, reading this book gave me a new perspective. Of course we are so thankful for the Gift of Life received, my son is not ready to write that letter yet. We will be more intentional than ever before to honor the Gift. This is the poignant story of a family who experienced grace and healing after unimaginable sorrow. As a nurse involved in organ transplant surgery (as well as a LOYNO alum), I see the miracle made possible by the sacrifice of families in the midst of heartbreaking tragedy; however, I never see this side of the story, the donor's story. Eloquent and beautifully written, this is Eric Gregory's story of his son Christopher, his family and friends, and the lives of those he touched. A "must-read" for anyone in the transplant community.
