I used this in my science unit on insects. Gail Gibbons has not failed me yet with her accurate information and colorful pictures. I have used several of her books in the past. The second grade class loved the story told using correct information. This helped them study and observe real ladybugs in our observation tank. This is a good book for school or just getting children interested in insects.

This was perfect for our life cycles unit in first grade. This book has the beautiful illustrations and scientific vocabulary I love in Gail Gibbons' books. This book had the most detailed information about ladybugs of any that I read to my class. I bought this to go along with "Ladybug Land" from Insect Lore.

I purchased this book as a companion to the Ladybug Land kit. My daughters (ages 9 and 5) loved reading the book and learning all about how a ladybug develops and then witnessing it all in real life with REAL, LIVE ladybugs! Easy to understand information and very nice illustrations.

Excellent book for all ages.Tells us that many insects can be very beneficial to man,despite chemical companies destroying many species of beneticial insects with their toxic pesticides.

Love all of Gail Gibbons books. Great pictures and info.

I'm a student in new york and we were assigned this book. The quick and dirty is that the book is somewhat long-winded and tough to follow, but gives a very detailed description of the teeth. Many new dental students will find that using the glut of new dental terminology like line angles, different types of ridges and just finding the orientation in space is hard. If you can get past this, the book is very helpful. Whats really helpful (and what most of our students use) is the tooth CD that comes with it. It is a series of cartoon picures that summarizes paragraph-long descriptions into something as easy as an arrow. Its just that easy. If you are fortunate to stumble across a PDF copy of the CD, use it. However, personally, I am very happy with purchasing the book because it also includes a number of flashcards in the back and it will no doubt be useful in studying for the boards. There it is. The book isnt THAT bad. Its just VERY descriptive.

This book has great resources such as the flash cards but I agree that the language is a bit difficult to understand. I prefer Woelfel's Dental Anatomy as the language is easier to understand and it has revision questions in a style similar to my course of study.

everything was in perfect condition. recieved it in time for class. seller has a good price compared to retail. happy with the purchase, unfortunately it wasn't essential to my class. I found it to be confusing and I didn't use it. Bird. Robinson : Modern Dental Assiting had this book summerized in better detail in a very clear and easy to understand way that made this book not necessary for anatomy class.

I like the Wheelers book for somethings. The pictures are great and have really great labels for all of the details. There are also blank flash cards so you can quiz yourself on the anatomy. However, the text can be very dense and difficult to understand the wording at times. There are also no quiz or review questions that would probably be helpful. Apparently though the people who make up the board exam use Wheelers to make their questions so I guess it's a catch 22?

I ordered a 10th edition copy of this book as the labeled in the description, instead I received a copy of the 1st South East Asia Edition...

While I consider my primary theoretical orientation cognitive-behavioral, no book has accelerated my progress as a psychotherapist faster than this one. Teyber & McClure focus on utilizing the therapy relationship as a key component of change through the use of "process comments." Process comments involving speaking with the client about what might be happening in the "here-and-now" between the therapist and client. By working with the process dimension, the therapist can begin to change a client's maladaptive relational patterns and schemas by facilitating a "corrective emotional experience," by responding in an affirming and empathic way.While I believe it is also important to focus on the "then-and-there" (e.g. content, homework, etc.), discussing the client's issues (i.e. problematic schemas, behaviors) as they occur in real time makes the therapy process even more powerful. The book contains countless examples of how to make process comments across a wide range of client issues vividly illustrating what a process approach to therapy actually looks like. The practicality of this book is what set it apart from other psychodynamic/relational psychotherapy books which tend to focus more heavily on theoretical and abstract principles. The authors do an amazing job of combining theoretical foundations (e.g. attachment theory) with the practical implications and interventions that match the underlying theory. I would highly recommend this book to any therapist (regardless of theoretical orientation) who is looking to make their work with clients more experiential and process oriented.

Alright I have many counseling books that I wish I had either rented or never would have had to purchase for school. This is an exception. This book is a great tool that has helped me understand the theory of psycho-dynamic therapy along with practical examples of the skill theory worked out in examples and explaination. It isn't a huge text rather a slim text that allows for practical understanding on how to take a client deeper into work as well as how to become a better therapist. I highly recommend this book even though it was a required buy for school, I still say if you have the choice still get it. Well worth it, because it is helping me with my clients.

This is a must-read for beginning therapists. Get over the lenght of it, it's worth it every page! Super clear explanations with a lot of case examples. The writers do everything they can to make you feel good about stepping into the profession.

I just finished reading this book as part of an independent study class in a graduate clinical social work program. I am so grateful a professor recommended this book. I had this book as a guide soon enough to make a huge difference in my clinical experience. My patients immediately benefited. This was the missing piece in my clinical education and supervision. I will be reviewing it for years as I integrate the many pieces of the psychotherapy puzzle. For beginners and for those who suspect they missed something in their interpersonal process training, this is a great book to read. If you are not sure, then you probably should read this book. The text is articulate and compacted. There are many practical examples of dialogue and up to date references. The text covers the major theoretical frameworks and integrates their use. Case conceptualizations and process notes are covered. The workbook designed to go with it is also well done. Highly recommended!

If you’re going into practice, you’re better off buying the book instead of renting it.I rented this for a class but now I’m writing my notes directly into the book and it’s generally a good reference to have on hand to refer back to.

This is by far the most helpful book I have read for practical advice on what to do in a therapy session. I read this book while working on my post graduate hours towards licensure. Don't let the fact that it's a text book fool you! I read this book cover to cover because the entire book is filled with practical information for case conceptualization, therapeutic interventions, and how to apply theory. This book integrates multiple theoretical orientations-no matter what kind of theory you lean towards, the concepts in this text will take your therapeutic skills to a deeper level!

I've never bought a textbook and read it front to back except for this book! It's seriously amazing and I know I'll use it for life in my profession.

As for myself, I love to add such spices as curry and cinnamon.I also note that there is no discussion on how to make the perfect pie crust. That's a shame.

Some of the pies are really different! Some of them are pure comfort food. Several of the recipes depend heavily on convenience foods. Gooseberry has you covered no matter how you like to eat.

About the Author

DR. LUCY JONES was a seismologist for the U.S. Geological Survey for thirty years, most recently as Science Advisor for Risk Reduction. She created the Great ShakeOut Drill, an earthquake preparation experiment that by 2016 included 53 million participants around the world. A research associate at Caltech, she holds a PhD in geophysics from MIT and a BA in Chinese language and literature from Brown University. She lives in Southern California.

Dr. Lucy Jones (my sister) recently retired from the United States Geological Survey and has now written a very readable book: The Big Ones: How Natural Disasters Have Shaped Us (and What We Can Do About Them). It’s full of interesting stories, starting with the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in Pompei, 79 A.D. through the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami in 2011. She provides plenty of scientific detail combined with a compassionate, human side of the story. The Mississippi flood of 1927 is both a terrible natural disaster as well as an important but disturbing civil rights story. Lucy details how we as human beings respond to disasters, but even more importantly how we can wisely prepare for future disasters. There’s a fascinating section that gives us an inside look at how Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is leading the city in its preparation for an inevitable earthquake.One surprise is that there’s no chapter on California earthquakes. She does devote one chapter to the worst disaster in California history entitled “What We Forget” which tells the story of the terrible … No. I can’t do it justice. I suggest you buy the book ;=)

It's difficult to say that I loved a book about disasters, but I did! We SoCal folks have seen and heard much of Lucy Jones, since we're in earthquake country. The local media consult with her whenever a newsworthy quake occurs anywhere. So I was not surprised by her display of that expertise in this book. Also, given that she is an expert researcher, I was not surprised to see that she was able to explain in layman's terms other natural disaster events from a geologic and physics perspective. What pleasantly surprised me was how she wove in the historical, political, and human behavior aspects of these major events. She pulls each of these stories together in a very entertaining and well-written manner. Her main "take-away": floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other major natural events are random, yet inevitable, but their consequences, catastrophic or not, depend entirely on human actions, before, during, and after the event. Her final chapter gives us hope that it may be possible to move the political systems to answer this call to duty.

I am hooked! It's an ambitious look at natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, and the need to explain phenomena through how we perceive the victim's part in their own (random) fate. It's bold, captivating and easy to understand. Highly recommend for classroom, libraries and book clubs!

This is a must read for anyone interested in the earth sciences and their impact on civilization. The author is obviously a very gifted scientist, and also really has an innate ability to share highly-technical, information-dense material in very engaging prose for the intelligent layperson. She has managed to describe several historical disasters, their natural foundations, the civilizations in place, and the impact on those civilizations. I truly hope that she follows this up with another "science book for the masses" - as I'd love to read more by her.

Even though I no longer live in Southern California, I still have family and friends who remain and form ties for me to the region. The events recounted for this book are wide-reaching, with the touch of human elements everyone can identify with and paired alongside facts. It is not by any means an exhaustive compilation of all the worst natural disasters, but addresses enough of them to lead this reader to understand the global connection we all share is one of humanity’s greatest strengths if we allow it to be. Oh, and maybe it’s time to really get an emergency supply kit together that will last more than a mere 3 days - I do live in tornado country now, after all.

Geology in college was my least favorite subject. Dr. Jones book details the parts of geology that fascinate me -- she delves into the human aspects of anticipating and recovering from geologic events we term disasters and the awful behaviors that we sometimes engage in to cope and understand them. As a native New Orleanian I read her Katrina chapter first to see if she would tell the truth as I've learned it from family serving in the Corps of Engineers and researchers at the university I work at. She did. I read the entire book with fascination and sometimes horror.

If you like earth science, you will love this book. I learned so many new things about stories I thought I knew. The stories about Pompeii and Lisbon were particularly fascinating as was the great California Flood of 1860-61. Dr. Jones is a gifted communicator and it really shows in this book. I also loved the Audible version, which is narrated by this world class scientist. Lucy may be "retired" from the USGS but she continues to educate and entertain us!

I have been fascinated by Earth’s incredible power since I was a child. This book has given me a much deeper and more complex understanding of how hurricanes, volcanos, and earthquakes actually work. I feel ready to both survive the event and recover from the aftermath.
