I love this book so much. It's a treasure trove of creative gems – sensational art, writing that is wicked funny and smart, and a play (yes, an actual play). It's so full of pop culture references from the last 40 years that it's somehow both a product of our times and timeless as well. A beautifully produced work of art that doesn't take itself too seriously. Highly recommend!

Full disclosure... I am the author's wife. Ha! But seriously - my husband is a mad genius. Originally while he was writing it, I was sure this book wasn't going to be for me. It was for comic book people and nerds - not exactly my genres of choice. But while my husband is a time-travel, sci-fi geek - he is also super sensitive and his sensitivity and intelligence are all over this. The relationship between Obama and Biden is written with so much humor and also emotion. Reading it I was filled with nostalgia - for the brighter and more hopeful feeling I used to have when they were the leaders of our country. I even got teary and I wasn't expecting that! Hope is a thread through each story and hopeful and optimistic is where this book leaves you. Besides the writing, there is so much unbelievable art made by a huge collection of super talented artists. If anything - Adam (my husband) committed so hardcore to just letting his crazy flag fly - that it is highly entertaining just to see what the hell he comes up with next. Buy this book for you or gift it and make someone's day!

So, Im proud to say I went outside my comfort zone and was invited to work on this crazy Barack Obama/Joe Biden project and asked... WTH? For me its a Work for Hire gig, I'm a long time main stream comic book artist, Im not politically motivated nor did that matter in this case, because its not a project that is driven by politics, treated more as a backdrop then anything.I co-created 5 faux covers for the book interior and just received an advance copy of the 220+ page hardcover. When I opened the book, I immediately realized that this was no ordinary book.. in fact Ive never seen anything like it. Crazy man, friend and author Adam Reid really must have had an out-of-body experience creating this highly energetic collection of ideas, short stories, plays and comic stories because having ex-president Obama and ex-vice president Biden wresting an octopus is about as outlandish as anything I could ever imagine.. and remember Ive drawn comics for many years!The book is an overall treat for the senses, Im not saying that because I had a hand in helping create some of it.... OK, maybe just a little bit of that, but if I were browsing a bookstore, however extinct bookstores are these days, I would have a hard time putting down The Adventures of Barry and Joe!~

When the the release date came across my social feeds I got excited, which hurts my bank account every time. I wanted the hardcover because the tease of the artwork alone told me it belongs on my bookshelf between Calvin & Hobbes and The Killing Joke, but ‘one day shipping’ is just too slow. So I read my digital copy this morning and made space on the shelf for the hardcover arrival tomorrow...and I’m so glad I did. Inevitably, I will need to pull this book off the shelf and hand it around because my descriptions alone will do it no justice. For those of you not in my living room i’ll Just say this; If you now or have ever loved cartoons, buddy comedies, time travel, adventure, laughing, that slight “I wish this were real” ping, and of course Sam “mother#$!@ing” Jackson, you will love this book. Hopefully you don’t need to read more reviews after that sentence. I’m trying to help you get to that next level, where this book is a part of your collection, as quickly as possible. Don’t thank me, thank the passionate folks who made this a ‘must have’ book.

And who doesn't want to see comic book RBG kicking ass with a giant war hammer gavel?Buy this for the kindle and you get all the art work digitally but personally, I think there's no replacement for the hard cover copy for the artwork.

This guide was helpful during our week in Mallorca. I especially appreciated the hyperlinks to the maps and subsections throughout the book. Those made it very easy to use. The one restaurant that we found that was recommended was indeed excellent. (Unfortunately, another was closed.) And, most of the information about the places to see was accurate. The guide led us to places that we enjoyed that we would not have seen otherwise, which I appreciated.The downsides were that the hiking directions for a couple of the circular hikes were outdated and/or difficult to follow. If hiking is your priority, turn elsewhere. The author suggests a couple of resources; however, the set of maps referred to (which were the only resource that he said would be found in Mallorca) were even less helpful for the casual hiker (and a waste of 15 euro).

I love Rough Guides in general, and this was no exception. The hip, sometimes snarky, but always informative content is excellent - just what I need. If you want a great historical overview, you'll find it here. Information on museums and restaurants? That too. It's in color which surprisingly makes a difference when you are trying to navigate your way around (although it's still hard to beat a paper map, which I recommend picking up for free at any tourist office or hotel). I like to go someplace first then read about it when I am there - my eyes glaze over if I try to imagine something out of context - and this book is perfect for that. I only visited Mallorca, but still consider I got more than my money's worth.My only suggestion, and I imagine it's a technical one, is to have some way of being able to click back and forth from text to map on the fly and to do so with a zoomable, scrollable map à la Google maps, where you have less detail at the highest level, but then can zoom down to street level. At the very least, the maps should allow you to tap on the edge to see the next pane.

Being a Rough Guide fan, am never disappointed by the layout and detailed information that their guides offer. This one is no exception!

This guide is accurate, informative, easy to read and bang up to date. The beaches areas well covered as this is where I like be. All the restaurants I went to in Mallorca, that were mentioned, were perfectly illustrated. Historical info is the best I've read as I enjoy this aspect too. Why not make this book your default reading? What an author........what a holiday destination.

The incredible story of the people responsible for the survival of the State of Israel in the late days of 1947 through the formal declaration as an independent state on May 14, 1948, and into the following months that secured that declaration with success. Odds beyond belief were overcome successfully as told through interviews, documented in the Appendix. A closer edit would have made the content closer to perfect with some words, comments, stories, and conclusions more on target. The researchers/authors lack of experience in the several subjects covered sometimes distract the reader who has a deeper knowledge of these subjects than the authors. Also, more details under the photographs, naming all the people and doing so accurately would be an improvement. I seriously doubt the "Piper Cub" identity applied to one picture. Nevertheless. a valued addition to my library for research and cross-referencing of events for additional depth of understanding and verification.

This is my second copy of this book. My son and I each have our own and it is a book that should be in every Military History Buff's library. Well written and an eye opening look into the cunning and back door deals that had to be made in order to help a fledgling Jewish State. I am so glad that I purchased this book and was able to share the experience with my sons.

This is a great historical narrative of the the establishment of Israel based on the experiences of the American, Canadian and other airmen.It is an accurate review of the abandonment and sabotage of the European Jewish refugees by England and the US State Department.Millions were murdered because the US State Department purposefully hid the truth of the death camps from the American public and blocked their escape to America and because the British government blocked their escape to Palestine.

Well written and researched book . to read about the 5,000-6,000 Jews from around the world - a lot WW 2 veterans rush to the help of the newly formed Jewish state gave me goose bumps . I highly recommend to every Israel Lover .

An amazing and very detailed historical account of the importance played by American and Canadian WWII veterans in the Israeli War for Independance. Provide a very detailed account of the "atrocities" purpetrated by the British to prevent the formation of Isreal.

GREAT SUMMARY OF HOW THE USA AND CANADA HELPED WIN THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE FOR ISRAEL AGAINST OVERWHELMING ODDS OF THE ARABS.

The exploits of these brave and heroic men deserve to be told in all their glory and foibles. Yashir Koach and may their honor and memories be a blessing to the Jewish People.

This excellent history of the early development of Israel's military, the problems, challenges, and the people who worked to overcome them is an great read and recommended.

This was used for an upper division first databases course. The book has plenty of examples to demonstrate concepts and goes into proper detail on the basics primarily for RDBMS as you can see from the preview Amazon provides. The security chapter isn't a fully explanatory chapter, but provides a fairly wide list of topics that I've used to look into the individual topics further. This is the same for the Big Data and NoSQL chapter which talks a little bit about Hadoop, MapReduce, and a couple other less popular ones.

I know that textbooks in general aren't great reads, but sweet mercy this book takes it to the next level. This book is so dense and painful that many timesi would have preferred running through a glass door than read it. If you have to get this for a class, I'm sorry. If you're just wanting to learn about databases, look elsewhere.

I'm a student, and this book is a waste of time. If you want to learn about databases find some other books.

VRINDA SHETH was born in Sweden and was raised on stories from ancient India. She began writing while studying classical dance in Kalakshetra, South India. Vrinda has a BA in English from the University of Florida and lives in Florida with her husband and daughter. ANNA JOHANSSON is a self-taught watercolor artist from Sweden. I am a voracious reader of Ramayana/Mahabharat inspired books, picked this up for that very reason. It struck me almost instantly that neither the author nor the artist were Indian (which is itself not a bad thing but makes one wonder if they'd understand the emotional appeal of a sacred epic from another country). The Ramayana is not a fairy tale, or a Lord of the Rings kind of fantasy, it is a religious epic. One can see that the author is sincere, but sometimes that is not enough. There are lot of deviations/liberties taken - like the portrayal of Rama,Laxman And Sita as teenagers while going into exile.The epic says there is a 12 year gap between the wedding when they are supposedly 16 and 18, and then the exile. They are not teenagers.There is no 'scroll' that tells them what to do when they enter the forest,they do it for sacred purpose. In fact there is no reference to any written communication at all in the epic, considering that it is dated 7000 years ago. The art is great looking but very european. One of the goddesses even has long blonde hair, like Rapunzel or something. And the writing with some editing would pass off as a children's book. Three stars only for the sincerity. Clearly the author and artist got something out of it and it shows. That is laudable. But a venerated epic from another country should perhaps be treated differently with more respect for its origins.

Shadows of the Sun Dynasty is my first foray into Indian mythology, actually into any Indian topic at all. I was completely unaware of the story of Ramayana. I am still undecided if that was a hindrance to me or an added bonus. I was able to read the story with an untainted perspective, but I think that background might have been helpful. I did love the fact that the females were so well developed and truly drove the tale. I received a plethora of background information which made me better acquainted with the characters. It was refreshing to have the woman's perspective and to have a definable heroine to champion. An epic battle of good vs. evil is made even better with the power and strength of the female perspective.The other part of this book that must be mentioned are the illustrations. It is rare to find a non-children's book with illustrations as such, but they are extraordinary. Detailed and mystical, I feel that they greatly enhanced the reading experience and helped me understand a culture that I am unfamiliar with. Well done!

Let me start by saying that regardless of your background knowledge on the Ramayana (I myself had next to none when beginning), this book will captivate you. It is an epic: as grand and encompassing as the Odyssey, but not nearly as fairly recognized in mainstream American culture.The story - as told by Vrinda Sheth - begins with Manthara, a young woman turned bitter and whose soul grows as twisted as her deformed spine. She becomes the foster mother to King Ashvapati's only daughter, and is determined to make the fiercely beautiful princess the most powerful royal in the world. Her strongest lesson to her charge: love is the ruin of all. Our princess Keyi, however, is not immune to love. Despite her warrior-like skills and stubborn free spirit, she is taken as King Dasharatha's third wife. He and all his wives are barren, and after years of battles with monstrous blood-drinkers - Dasharatha is finally desperate for an heir. His desire for one is not selfish - he needs a son to carry the line of the Sun Dynasty, the line of men that are destined to defeat Ravana, the ten-headed demon king and creator of the blood-drinkers, who rapes and steals women. So begins the ritual to bring fertility to his family, from which four sons are born. One among them, Rana, is quickly fated to be the chosen heir. Mayhem, jealousy, great love and immense grief follow from there.This is no picnic book, to be sure - this will take you a good chunk of time in a recliner to read. I can assure you, however, that it is well worth the effort. A stunning work.

I have never been a big fan of mythology, but after reading the reviews of this book, I decided to explore and expand my horizons back into mythology. I was not disappointed. Vrinda Sheth wrote a beautiful and compelling story around the ancient poem of Ramayana. Shadows of the Sun Dynasty encompasses everything you would expect to find in a book based on the poem of Ramayana, strong and bitter women, love and war, good versus evil. I would highly recommend reading this book, even if you are not into mythology. The illustrations were colorful and beautiful and I certainly enjoyed the story. I did find the story a bit long and that is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I look forward to more stories by the author and of course, more illustrations.

First - the artwork was amazing. I was so impressed with the word descriptions and then seeing the artwork - I truly think my favorite part of this story was seeing the text come to life with the pictures and descriptions.But not only was the artwork beautiful, the words were so thoughtful and had so much depth. I literally read this book from front to cover in two days and know that this will be a go to for me. Vrinda Sheth has a true art in telling a story that has so many dimensions and gives life to the role women have played in the story of Ramayana. When I finished this book, I was compelled to learn more about the story of Ramayana and saw that Vrinda Sheth was able to develop the female characters - it is interesting to see her take on the queen and princess and their motives behind their actions. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to have a great read or anyone who has the passion to step outside of their norm and learn more!
