I should have cut my losses and not finished this book. While this is the type of story that I would typically enjoy, I did not love it. I did not really even like it. It is a murder mystery set in 2009 Louisiana and it also involves a mystery that occurred shortly after the civil war. Our heroine sets out to solve both of them. It sounds good, but it is not.Caren dropped out of law school and has been adrift. She returns to Belle Vie, the sugar plantation where she was raised and where her mother worked as a cook. Belle Vie is a tourist attraction and a prime venue for weddings and other events. She runs the business for the wealthy Clancy family. She was a playmate of the younger Clancy boy but his ambitious older brother is the one in charge. Caren lives there with staff who have worked there since she was a kid. She now has a 9 year old daughter of her own, from a long-term relationship with one of her law school peers. Outside the plantation proper, the Groveland Corporation harvests sugar cane. One of the Mexican workers is found dead on the property. There are hints of a cover-up by Groveland or by Clancy. It also appears that there is some link between this murder and the disappearance of Caren’s great-great-great grandfather Jason, a free slave who continued to work on the plantation after the civil war. One of the employees at the plantation is writing about Jason’s story for a class at the local community college. Some tangled lies and deceptions later, Caren and her ex-boyfriend are trying to solve the murder as their young daughter appears to be involved. Their lives are in danger and Caren does not know who to trust. Plus, Caren had previously walked away from her life at the plantation and from her mother. She did not return for her mother’s funeral. And then there is the newspaper reporter and also a graduate student writing his dissertation about Belle Vie. Are you following all of this?I was expecting a different type of novel. I thought that the story would shift between the present and the civil war era plantation. The second section of the novel is even titled “The Olden Days of Belle Vie.” However, the story takes place all in the present. I think it would have been a richer reading experience if both eras were represented. There were a lot of secondary characters, so many that I had some trouble keeping track. Some of them served no purpose, such as the dissertation writing graduate student. I did not really care for Caren. I did not understand her and it was hard to get a handle on her motives. Also, they murder mystery was not too mysterious. Even the writing was not that great. It felt like the author was trying to pack in a lot of information and added unnecessary characters as a way to move the story forward. I think this book would have benefited from a clearer focus and some strong editing.

I could never connect with the characters, the author was too busy describing their jeans, t-shirt and shoes to bring them to life. I knew more about what they were wearing than who they were.The plot could have been interesting if developed. It just wasn't. The why of the murders should have been the story not a blip at the ending.

Attica Locke’s The Cutting Season is a gripping novel. I personally loved it because it was everything I love in a mystery—a Southern setting (a plantation,) a diversity of characters (the main character is an African-American woman, plus there are plenty of whites, “villains” and otherwise.) The premise is that a murdered Mexican migrant woman is found on the grounds of the museum/plantation house that protagonist Caren Gray manages. The dead woman had worked the sugar cane fields just across the fence from the plantation grounds. Intrigue piles upon intrigue until all is solved. Locke, whose previous novel to this one was filled with twists and turns, tells a fairly non-convoluted story this time. There are surprises along the way, but mostly people turn out to be who they seem to be and the climax doesn’t hit like a ton of bricks, but it does satisfy. About midway through, I had an idea Caren would find out something potentially earth-shattering for her, and she does. But her dealing with it was not how I expected, so that was interesting. And, I must say, I’m glad Locke dealt with it in the way she did. Attica Locke, who writes for the TV series Empire, is an excellent novelist and quite prolific. There are two other novels in her canon. She must be tired all the time, but I hope she continues churnin’ ‘em out.

This book is very well written. The ending was so surprising I never had the slightest clue. While the book is largely about a young women who is confused and unable to come to grips with with her own family history, it is also about love, loss and the courage to carry on. Caren Gray, Helen’s girl, is forced to move back to her childhood home-and the life she thought she hated. She tries to run from her past and to make a life as a single mother only she finds herself right back in the middle of it. Forced to drop out of law school she has to face the bitter loss of her mother, and figure out how to raise her daughter alone. In a strange twist she finds her fate and her past are intricately woven together. Unable to outrun it she has to face it. Some history, lots of intrigue, well defined character make this a very good book.

Seriously, this is the ultimate guide to drawing funny cartoons? It reads like a book of instructions on how to put together something from Ikea. The handful of basic illustrations look like they are taken from Pixar's website. Nuff said. PS Five star reviews? Uggghhh. PPS I am a professional cartoonist living in Australia. My advice is to save your money (I downloaded this book while it was free) and spend it on a pen and some paper and just draw. PPPS Any down votes of my review will have come via one FB group or another. Ignore them. This book really does s#ck the big one.

It’s a very helpful guide for beginners. I learned new hand positions to use while drawing as well as toning and shading my drawing. There’s also a step by step procedures on how to do portrait drawing, drawing from memory and dealing with drawing mistakes. It was fun to try the suggestions given as well I think. This is something I can share with my son who also likes to draw.

How to draw cartoons by Eva Valdez is not a book I recommend! 5 very small cartoons shown in 5 steps! I got this on a free day and it was too much! The cartoons that were shown were so small, I will have to get a magnifying glass if I want to try to draw them. What a joke!

Would like to have more diagrams to help us new people starting out. There were some good ideas to help out.

My daughter had a lot of fun with this.

Eva does an outstanding job in this book of breaking down step by step how to draw some of my favorite cartoon characters from a host of different films.I thought I couldn't draw, but after following Eva's instructions I can see that my drawings look almost like the films. I can see with a little more practice I can get even better. I am definitely going to want to check out other books by Eva as well. She has a no nonsense approach to drawing and makes it not only easy but fun too!

This book is everything you need to draw in general. i always wanted to draw cartoon charactersand this book has helped me alot so far. its jam packed of useful and interesting information andhelped me able to draw a cool buzz lightyear now, awesome!

There was not much instruction in this book. The book was only a few pages long. Try something else. I was truly disappointed.

It's a OK book for the First timers to Hawaii's food.

This book has some good recipes. I prefer some of her other books though. But if you want to learn about some of Hawaii's recipe then this book is for you.

Excellent source of local Hawaiian dishes.

A Room with a View is a great novel that offers insight into society during the early twentieth century. From the beginning of the book, Lucy Honeychurch, the protagonist, is torn between what is socially acceptable. This is illustrated by the love triangle between Lucy, George (her true love), and Cecil (her fiancé). George is of a lower class than her, and yet, he is the one she truly loves. Cecil is her pretentious, upper class fiancé who would rather protect her than be her equal. Will she choose George, whom is of a lower social class than her, or Cecil, the socially acceptable wierdo? The themes of love and social status are forever present in the novel. The book is made even more enjoyable by the dry humor employed by E.M. Forster. He is so serious and sarcastic whenever he makes jokes, it makes the book all the better. I found myself loving the book mainly because of how relatable Lucy is. She is a young women trying to find herself in the midst of social pressures. Overall, I thought the book was amazing and would definitely recommend it.

Good grief, this has been my second and possibly third reading of this work (This is over quite a number of years and my long term memory is beginning to fail me...sigh), and I must say that I enjoyed it as much this go-around as I did the first. There is something about this work that simply appeals to me.Now this is not to say that it will be on every readers most favored list - no, far from it, and this is how it should be. For me thought it is an excellent read and if I last longer I will most likely read it again on down the road.This is one of those tales that touches on a wide range of the general overall human condition. It should also ne noted here that the time element covered by this novel is 1908 which is pre WWI and it IS NOT taking place during the `Victorian era' of which several reviewers have stated. No, we are talking the Edwardian era in England and while some of the morals and morays of Victorian times still linger, it is never the less a different age completely. This must be understood to understand the story.Anyway, back to the subjects covered in this work: Love, prejudices, betrayal, strong but understated humor, a snapshot of a previous era, sociological observation of the English upper middle class and of course the clashes of culture; of the rather painful differences between the perceived social classes in England at that time. It also investigates the dilemma of `self' v/s the expectations of society and family. All in all, if you look at it a certain way, not much has changed over the years and the issues addressed in this classical work are still strongly among us even to this day. It takes a long, long time for attitudes in society to fade. I know in my own case that I was raised very closely to grandparents who were as about as Edwardian as you can get and there is no doubt that their influence had a great deal in molding my personality and attitudes...for better or for worse. (Hey, I am old and yes, I can remember people of that generation quite well).We have a young lady; a young lady with brains, even though she does not realize it at the time, who is motivated and pulled apart by her true feelings and those feelings that she is either suppose to have or not suppose to have in a number of situations.Yes, the author has used a number of what we could consider stereotypes of the time but he has used them to good effect and used them to tell his story quite well. While this may bother some folks, I found it to make the overall story more understandable and easier to `go down.'This work starts in Italy and drifts back to England and again, to understand the story, you have to have some understanding of the cultural gap between England and the continent in those days. Good or bad, it was what it was.Few will deny that this is a well written work...it may not be to every ones taste, as I have stated, but good is good by most standards. I can get quite lost in the author's narrative prose and descriptive writing.I was delighted to see that this work is now free via your reading machines...it was about time.Don BlankenshipThe Ozarks

This is one of my favorite books. I read it right after watching the movie. I love both. I am a fan of E.M. Forster. This was my 1st, but I have since read most of what he has written. I would say he is one of my all time favorite writers, up there with Jane Austen, and J.K. Rowling. I tend to like either Romance or fantasy/Sci fi. E.M. Forster delivers on Romance. It is true, his books may move a bit slow for some. I prefer it. I feel like I get to know the characters in a more personal way, when I see more of their day to day in the pages. This one moves faster than his others, and is the most cheerful of all his books.The characters are written so well. Lucy is our slightly bratty main character. The mother and the brother are sweet. I love Mr Beebe: the very liberal vicar. I love George and his father. Both are romantic, manly characters. Cecil is clueless but still entertaining and lovable. I love the mischievous romance novelist. I love the Miss Alans, who I am probably most like, in the story,("tiresome... with all of their iffing and butting.") I especially love that you are still able to love all of the characters despite quite obvious flaws. None of them are one dimensional characters. They all have their bright points and redeeming characteristics. Just thinking about this book makes me smile. SPOILER: My favorite line:....................................................................................................... "It is Fate, but you can call it Italy if it pleases you Vicar."

This is another absolute gem from Forster; writing, characters and story extremely good. His common themes of class and love and a changing England get a new layer of scandal and modernity that was simultaneously surprising and absolutely natural. He was able to write in the house as a character in such a way as I was transported and didn't want to leave in a hurry. Beautiful.

Thank you Jamil for laying this out so nicely. This book is more than just an introduction to penny stocking as it breaks down different patterns for both long and short selling, what to expect from your broker, what rules must be followed as a trader, how to keep discipline both in a trade and when doing your studies. I have 30 or more books on my shelve and all of them are good for what they are titled for but this is by far the best when it comes to what the title says "The COMPLETE Penny Stock Course" and at $29.00 please feel free to reply to my post and let me know a better $29.00 book filled with as much information on every topic as this book does. Yes there are better books for TA, or charting, or going long, or going short, but it the whole books agenda not just a subchapter in a chapter. You might not be good at it but as a penny stock trader I'm here to say that you could read this book studying each chapter as you go and by the end place winning trades. I have spent thousands on mentors and will never regret it as it has paid for it self many times over. But this book is the best $29.00 you can spend to help figure out if the stock market and maybe a mentor to accelerate your skills is right for you. My only suggestion I have is to use something like Yahoo Finance to look at the charts as they are hard to see in book size and they are not in color. Every chart has the ticker symbol along with the date of which it was shown from so looking at full size in color on your computer is a breeze. Enjoy your reading of this book (I know I did) and good luck if you enter the market.

Very informative and I found entertaining, if you are currently contemplating dabbling in penny stocks or you are currently trading penny stocks or low price stocks this book is for you. Whether you like Tim Sykes or not shouldn't matter if you want to become a successful trader you have to put your bias a side and read this book. It's a treasure trove of invaluable insights to trading the most volatile stocks in the market. Within the pages you will learn the secret to successfully trading penny stocks and make millions. I'm going to spoil it for you and let you in on the secret. Study, Study, Study and then Study some more, that is the Sykes secret. So if you are looking for a get rich quick short cut then this is not for you, this is a book filled with hard learned lessons that are applicable today as they were yesterday and will be tomorrow. It'll take hard work and at times a lot of pain in order to become a professional trader. Jump start your trading career and give this book a read, you won't regret it..

This is the book I wish I had read before starting in the market just this past February. It takes all of the leg work out. It is well written, well organized and even gives you tips on how to develop a daily plan of action. Personally, I feel it’s the yellow brick road to financial freedom.

This book is nowhere near the complete guide to day trading penny stocks. It covers all the bases but only scratches the surface. For example, it covers patterns, but it doesn't cover what the corresponding volume should look like in order for the pattern to correctly play out or signal a good entry. Another example, it covers level II, but on its own. In order to really understand how to day trade you need to know how price action, level II, volume, and time & sales should look like in order to make good entries and exits. Don't waste your money and time on this book.Instead, I would recommend "How to day trade" by Cameron or "How to Day Trade for a Living" by Azis instead. They're written much better and put all the important elements together which is important to becoming a consistent and successful day trader.

As a financial markets veteran, I cant tell you, the material in this book, and the whole Tim Sykes mantra is real. If you can find this book ( i think its going to be tough to do that pretty soon) and you're either a micro or nano cap trader, or someone interested in learning about the world of penny stocks- buy it . Here's a guy who's telling you how you can build wealth, and at the same time learn a skill that you can take literally anywhere in the world. James Altucher would refer to him as a "choose yourself person" as he's showing you how you can choose your own life, on your own terms, with hard work and a lot of application, best of all it's available to anyone willing to put the time in. You will probably read some disparaging reviews from haters and stock promoters. I would ignore them. Sykes doesn't hide from anything, anyone who's followed him knows that. His whole story is a warts an all tale, with plenty of ups and downs along the way. the best stories always are.. I would dig in, get ready to work and study really hard, and above all have patience!

This is a great book. I'm one of Tim Sykes students and this is a well organized introduction to his strategy. It's also a nice review for students who have watched Tim's video lessons and DVDs. If you are thinking of becoming Tim Sykes student and are hesitant about whether or not he is real, I recommend starting with this book.

Highly recommend this book if you're serious about learning to trade penny stocks. I've been trading Blue Chip stocks for over 3 years in long positions and options. Penny stocks is a completely different world and this book describes it in great detail providing valuable insight to its intricacies. It's helpful for both the beginner and experienced investor. Jamil does a great job teaching the step-by-step process to getting started. I've been in Tim's Challenge for about a month now and this book is a must read. It is one of the most helpful tools when first starting and has given me a jump-start in this field!

Quirky writing style of the author and written for men primarily makes this a difficult book to review. I guess I read four of his books because I knew we both graduated in the same class in high school. This being the fourth I have to say looking back, I found them each to be an interesting read but I can see why many folks mayl not share my fascination. If the reader is a Kindle user I would suggest ordering a sample as you may find you either like or hate his musings.
