I love this series of books (except for the duet and solos ones). They are well-paced, thorough, and tuneful. I use them instead of the more traditional (and boring) Rubank books, and I have not noted any deficiencies in my students' technique. Alternatively, they are also good for sight-reading, which is what I use the Tunes for Technique volume for. Highly recommend.

5 star all day! This book is excellent in every way. If I HAD to have a issue (which I don't) I would have to say get you dictionary ready. This book shows it's age with the terms used they we don't use nowadays. 9 times out of 10 you can pretty much figure out the meaning of the word but I looked them up just to be sure. I probably had to look up 10-12 words, no big deal. Get this book!

In a nutshell the book is very direct and to the point. It opens your mind up to the fact that your thoughts wander and that it can be dangerous, but explains that it can be countered by consciously visualizing and thinking about what it is you want. Essentially, stop leaving your mind on autopilot - it'll get you places.

I enjoyed reading the book so much so that once completed, I had not realized it. I scanned for more pages, anticipating more. I thought, prior to reading, that you are what you think but this book provided an expansive take on that theory. This book would be nice for anyone who seeks to transcend.

This was one of the best books I've read on the Law of Attraction. It was well written although short and to the point. I felt very positive and I am practicing all the excercises and feel very good about my New Life. If you're already on the law of attraction path, this is a wonderful addition to that path. I like the way he simplified some ideas I knew of, but I wasn't 100% sure on how to achieve. I also liked his use of the science behind energy and his frankness - if you don't change your thinking this won't work, but with the right mental guidance, which this book gives you, you really can transform your life and it all starts with how you view the law. Definitely recommend this quick read.

Great book for kids. Purchased for 10 year old. Lots of facts.

Book was a gift, arrived with the spine broken.

Traditionally, almanacs are five star, but they put an asinine pop-culture section in this kids model.I usually rip the pop culture sections out of these before I let the students get near them. This issue I have to rip out the "US Racial Makeup" on p. 230. "Hilarious", "offensive", and "ignorant" don't begin to describe the chart and disclaiming blurb afterward: "Hispanic is an ethnic background, not a race. Hispanic peope can be of any race. Researchers use both "Latino" and "Hispanic" to describe people with origins in Spain or Latin America." If "Hispanic" is an "ethnic background"; then "White" and "Black" are colors, and "Asian" is a cuisine. Shame on you Scholastic -- go bankrupt in a fire.

At first the point of view was a bit off-putting, but after a few chapters in I hardly noticed it. Despite the length of this novel, I could scarcely put it down. It takes you on a thrill ride of epic proportions; from outright horror to something magical, pure and uplifting. The chemistry of the two incredible writers would seemingly have been nigh impossible to top after The Talisman, yet they brought the magic back with Black House. In spades.

I read the Talisman years ago and re-read it prior to reading this. As with other readers of Black House, I found the first several pages difficult, at times painful to get through. I would actually close my Kindle cover, squeeze my eyes shut, painfully re-open them, knock on the Kindle and say, "Story, you can come out now. I know you're in there somewhere. Please stop torturing me with the mindless tour and bizarre narration." It finally did. I skimmed through the first part and was rewarded. The majority of the book was great and worth getting through the mindless tour and bizarre narration at the beginning.

Black House is the second of two novels by Stephen King & Peter Straub. As far as I know, there are no others in this series. I was afraid it would either be too scary or somehow boring – I seem to have read a lot of Stephen King books over the years and thought I might be getting to the point where they all started to be somewhat the same. But even though there were some unpleasant aspects to it, it was a very interesting story.For understanding this book, I’m sure it helps if you have read the first book, The Talisman, but if you haven’t, it won’t keep you from enjoying this one. The book refers back to the earlier one several times, but the story stands well on its own. It also references places and events from Stephen King's Dark Tower series and having read those also helps to understand this one. But again, it is not necessary.The story begins with an overview of the little town of French Landing, Wisconsin. One of the things we find out during our tour of the town is that it has been plagued by a string of murders of children. The police are already working on the first two cases, and there is a third they are not yet sure of. And the murderer is planning the abduction of a fourth child.Jack Sawyer, the hero of The Talisman, has retired from the LAPD and come to live in French Landing. He is good friends with Dale Gilbertson, the police chief and with Gilbertson’s uncle Henry, a blind man who has several DJ personalities for various radio stations in the area. With these helpers and some others, including a motorcycle gang, one of whose members is the father of the first of the murder victims, Jack must find the murderer and rescue the last little boy to disappear. This journey involves a mysterious Black House that belongs to the murderer and a trip to the mysterious lands that Jack thinks of as The Territories – places that will be familiar to those who have read the Dark Tower series.

An excellent follow-up to "The Talisman." The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that the beginning is very slow. It takes you through the town, introducing you to all the characters, some major and some minor, but because you're not invested in these characters yet, it can be a little confusing. If you stick with it, you'll come upon Jack Sawyer, our protagonist, all grown up and tired of homicide detecting. However, he has one more case to solve....

The Black House is the sequel to Steven King and Peter Straub's epic masterpiece, "The Talisman." The way these stories are written, the reader can feel the banter band camaraderie between King and Straub jumping off the in the way of descriptions and character building.Black House is not just the continuation "travelling Jack's journey in The Talisman. It is also a look into the evil that can permeate a small town and the unlikely heroes that emerge from such chaos. This a theme that makes Steven King and Peter Straub such wonderful story teller. Once again, the characters are so well-fleshed out that I could feel deep emotions for each of them and the mysterious Tower that looms in the shadows that leaves a terrifying imagine in the readers imagination. The ending of Black House is both satisfying and tragic, leaving me to want to know what happens next.

This may have been the third time I’ve read the Talisman set by Stephen King and Peter Straub.. What an excellent configuration. They meld together perfectly and deliver a story line that is enjoyable and spellbinding no matter how many times I read it. I could go on and on about the exceptional character development, the imagery and the way the book has an atmospheric all its own. But, to be completely honest and ‘transparent’ as they say these days,... I read books of this genre solely to be entertained. If the book transforms from words to pictures in my mind’s eye, if I can imagine the characters so well that I literally care about them, and be both satisfied with the end, yet disappointed that it ended, then I am a very happy camper! Thank you Stephen King, Peter Straub and Amazon! 👍🏻 well done!
